I’m Sandi Cohen, a Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner, Nutrition Educator, and a Certified Nutrition Consultant who educates my clients on what’s going on in their body that’s causing their signs and symptoms. By addressing the root cause of their health concerns and introducing simple, targeted dietary and lifestyle modifications, we start to shift the terrain in order to help meet their health goals.

At 13, I had my first encounter with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I was plagued with gut issues wherever I went, whatever I ate. As a teen, this was a hard issue to deal with, and I desperately hoped it would just go away. I saw doctors, but they didn’t give me the information or tools to help me. Most doctors told me to either just ignore my stomach problems or to skip vegetables, or only eat white bread and potatoes. Needless to say, this advice did not work and I found myself limiting most foods as everything seemed to make me feel bloated and sick all the time. This of course affected my blood sugar throughout most of my life, as well as my moods, and always left me feeling exhausted.

Throughout my adult life, I’ve always connected people. Funny enough, I think it’s in my DNA! Whether it’s suggesting the best dentist, school, hair stylist, babysitter, best place to buy shoes (my favorite pastime!), initiating groups for book clubs, cooking classes, healthiest foods to eat, or writing healthy recipes and articles long before blogs were trendy for family and friends, I continue to be that go to girl. I always felt the need to share information with others rather than sitting back and watching the world go by.

After realizing this about myself, I was left with no other choice but to go back to school and educate myself in order to start healing myself. I started connecting with information that I needed to finally understand physiologically what was causing my signs and symptoms.

Previous to this realization, I worked for eight years in a hospital as an Orthoptist for a corneal and retinal specialist. Then after moving to Los Angeles 21 years ago and having two children, it finally dawned on me where my passion lied.

After years of just accepting my “gut fate”, (which was totally not the way I handled anything else in my life) and not getting the health support that I needed to address my symptoms, I decided to start finding out about my unique digestion system. That was literally the best decision that I ever made. During my nutrition studies, I eventually discovered the Functional Nutrition Alliance - Full Body Systems Program, and the FNPL certification program. After completing my education, I was able to understand what was happening to me physiologically and why. I made the necessary changes to finally start my journey on healing my digestive issues. I’m proud to say that I’ve now become part of the solution to help fill this “knowledge gap” in health care.

I want to help you start taking charge of your health issues! No more accepting the status quo and not finding the answers that you need to improve your everyday life. All too often our health care providers skip immediately ahead to the “testing, pills and protocol method” and ignore the fundamental steps that are essential for healing FIRST - before anything else. Not addressing the root cause of “why and what’s going on in your body” essentially puts a band aid solution on the problem that only creates a temporary fix. Without addressing the underlying root causes of those signs, symptoms, and diagnosis, those aggravating signs and symptoms will eventually return, leaving you no better than when you first started.  I say enough!

No longer should you have to accept the aging process and all the health issues that go along with your genetic history as your fate. You deserve to understand what’s going on in your unique system. I know by introducing targeted dietary and lifestyle modifications, core basics such as; sleep and relaxation, exercise and movement, nutrition and hydration, stress and resilience, relationships and networks as well as community, will start to help you turn your life around for the better.
